The Search Engine Visibility Famine

June 23rd, 2007

Search Engine VisibilityThis is serious people, there is a severe famine for Search Engine Visibility. For some this has been ongoing for years. Trial after trial and service provider, one after the other has been failing in providing the traffic needed for online sites to make real money. The whole point of a site is to generate traffic and yet site owners don’t give up despite this vast famine.

There are great companies with services that are top notch that most of us will never know about them because we just can’t find them. Gaining the exposure that is necessary is done so by proper planning and not buying into the idea that you can get top spots guaranteed by companies using old methods. No wonder search engine visibility is in a famine, we are using old tricks or paying people to use methods that just don’t work.

Are you aware that there are several ways to gain exposure:

  1. Social Bookmarking Sites
  2. Advertising on Top rated sites
  3. Writing Articles and distributing them to article directories
  4. Posting to free directories
  5. Building your own social bookmarking sites or article directories
  6. Writing tons of informative content on your own site
  7. Using Blogs to post content and notify search engines
  8. Using proper keywords, meta tags
  9. Making sure your site is Xhtml/css compliant

There are more and this list can be overwhelming. The sites who are doing the best in the search engines are applying these methods on an on going basis. If you want search engine visibility and get out of this famine it is time to get to work!

Search Engine Visibility in Jeopardy because of Google’s Lack of Sensibility

June 18th, 2007

It is the year 2007, and we have truly entered an era of revolution; a technological revolution that is. That term has been overused to say the least, but it is nonetheless true. Unlike the Baby Boomers and their social revolution of the 1960’s, we are wired, switched on, plugged in, turned on and tuned in, and it has been technological revolution that has made all this possible. We can be better students, workers and employers because technology allows us to stretch our creativity far beyond what our predecessors ever imagined. Because of this, you would think that as a human race, we would be more evolved, smarter, and productive. More importantly, as a human race we must have obtained a higher degree of common sense than all the generations that have preceded us. We would like to think so, but I am convinced that even though we have the added and remarkable benefit of advanced technology, we have lost a great deal of our common sense. This fact has been proven by the actions of people and companies all around the globe.

Now, based on the title of this article you already know where I am going, but the slam is not just against Google, it is an overall observation. Since the boom of the Internet, people have wetted their appetites with thoughts of global marketing. Google has certainly cashed in on this. Some have actually estimated its worth to exceed $150 billion dollars. Let me say that again, $150 billion! The internet boom can be likened to the California Gold Rush. Companies and entrepreneurs have scrambled to tap into the global market, and Search Engine Visibility has been on the forefront of their hearts and minds. It is simply phenomenal to think that I can sell my idea to the whole world. My mind starts racing along at breakneck speed and in my heart I realize I can take over the world!

Colossal search engines have emerged like Google, Yahoo, ExactSeek, MSN, AOL and many others who provide portals capable of filtering out websites so users can search and find exactly what they are looking for. As for the website owners, they desire the impossible …. the coveted “first page” of the search engine. For those who have really done their research, it is obvious that the true “Money Making Spot” is on the hallowed grounds of Google’s first page.

Some years back it was really simple to get top positions in Google and other search engines. search engine visibility was simply attained by a few tricks and manipulations that went right past the Google bots. Well, that didn’t last, and Google wised up and changed the whole nature of its search engine. Thousands of sites lost position and there was panic and uproar on par with the stock market crash of 1929. Then as time moved on, we learned that Google just wanted to make its search engine more user friendly and full of quality search results to make the end user happy. Fair enough. We understood Google’s perspective, and in response, many people changed their tactics and used blogging and link building campaigns in addition to quality content to bolster their sites. This opened up tremendous business opportunities for web masters as those new strategies created a whole new set of services designed to meet Google’s requirements. It was the internet at its best: the creation of commerce through technology and ingenuity. Unfortunately, many web masters didn’t follow these guidelines, and instead they offered “Pre Google Florida Update” techniques. In my research, I have found pitifully few companies that offer legitimate SEO tactics.

Currently, there are those who post their sites to directories and this has proved to be a reliable and stable technique. These directory sites mostly come at a price and the cost for the service can vary greatly. Some are priced moderately around $10 to $20, while others can gouge the customer of upwards of hundreds of dollars. The fact of the mater is that these are people working to make a better way to receive one-way links, and they have to physically manage their sites in order maintain quality link directories. I had previously written in a few forums that some of these prices were too high, and that webmasters should not be greedy, but consistent. It may not be a popular idea, but I don’t think any directory site should charge more then $15.00 for a listing. Think about the economics. Higher prices drive the consumer away, but by offering an affordable service, you will attract customers on a mass scale and make even more money than you would have previously.

In this regard, Google crushed search engine visibility when they announced that they were going to punish webmasters by posting negative results to sites that pay for links on other sites. They have even given a way to “tattle tell” on these site owners. Maybe it is just me, but I simply do not trust anyone who turns to the secret police for help. That is just a little too much power for one company. Maybe Google wants to teach the World Wide Web a lesson and get the word out that they will not stand for those greedy people who like to take advantage of search engines. Hmm, that is an interesting position considering it is coming from a company valued at $150 billion dollars. I suppose they have enough power now to decide how much the rest of us should make. They own the internet after all. Well Google, if you are going to teach such a great lesson, then you must follow your own guidelines. Hypocrisy will not be tolerated! Should we start reporting sites using Adwords? I mean, heck… they are paying Google to get their links not only on their own search engines but on thousands of sites that webmasters have strategically placed Google ads on. Every time someone clicks those ads, someone makes money. What it comes down to is simple extortion on Google’s part. The only way to succeed is to bow down and kiss the ring of the Godfather, and pray that he does not whack you the moment you turn around.

Search around and look at the trends. Thanks to Google, search engine visibility has dropped for many sites yet again, especially directory sites. Has its PPC dropped? I don’t think so! I think we need to make a stand against this. Though I love Google because its search engine brings Great Results for us, they are making power moves by these statements and now 100’s of directory sites are sitting dead in the water, while leaving high ranking sites that no one wants to list out of fear of Google’s reprisals. This is wrong, I think Google needs to re-think this method.

So my appeal is to Google, remember your humble beginnings at Stanford University, and stop this nonsense. You used to be a fun kid, now you’re just the bully of the playground who is intent on stealing the ball. Stop making your great company look like web terrorist who strips money away from hard working business people. If you want to make a point, why don’t you punish the sites actually guilty of taking advantage of the consumer? Leave the rest of us small fish alone. We are only trying to make a living. As for reporting abuse, should we stoop so low as to become web snitches? What if we take this so literal that we all start complaining against sites that use your own adwords? It is exactly the same line of thinking. I am just using good common sense here. Google, you have the power to make your point. You also have the ability to help site owners from being ripped off. Use your power judiciously instead of what you are doing now.

Now, to those site owners who are not sure what to do about gaining search engine visibility without the benefit of directory sites, listen up! This is a must “need to know” strategy to apply until Google changes its ways. Start writing content for your sites and add a blog as well. Make statements about your industry and convince readers that you know what you are doing. Write articles and submit them all over the web as this can’t hurt you in the search engines. My point is content, content, content!!! Google still loves content and still gives great rankings for this. So while we wait for the Godfather to make his next decree, try this strategy. Google can’t outlaw content, especially original content. In fact, I will gain rankings in Google from this article alone!

Get Positioned on Google First

May 24th, 2007

increase page rankMost web site owners find that they get in MSN & Yahoo first but not Google. This is what I hear most of the time and one of the biggest complaints. Not to mention that they are always changing their algorithms so sites that were top ranked are not gone.

So who is the master of Google and understand all their ways? Google does. But after years of reading, experimenting and doing other things I can tell you some basic things that may help.

First, when you put your site together don’t upload it until it is a complete site. Now this doesn’t mean it has to be 100% but have working links and content in each page. Make sure to have 400 or more words per page and add a news section with a handful of articles relating to your industry.

Second, use a blog directly on your site. I like wordpress and so does Google! Give your blog a touch of class by making it match your site design. Then add some categories and write a handful of posts. Make sure to add more to the ping server list in your blog as it comes default with 1, and there are a ton of others including MSN’s, Google’s & Yahoo’s ping servers.

Thirdly, create some social book marking accounts like digg.com and places like that and link your blog content to these sites. Now, when I say add content I mean quality, well written and original otherwise you will just make everyone upset and you don’t want that kind of attention.

Now you are thinking what next, do I submit to the search engines, should I submit to directories, do I start a link exchange campaign. Okay, doing the 3 things above wait 3 weeks and check your stats and you will see traffic from Google starting. Yes, there are tons of things to do beyond this that will help but this article is about getting Google attention first and that will do the trick.

Top 10 Ways to Improve Search Engine Ranking

March 25th, 2007

My top 10 ways to Improve Search Engine Rankings is based on 7 years of banging my head against the world wide webs search engines and tons of wasted books on top 10 seo tactics.

Let me say first that there are tons of books, sources and tutorials that make promises of top 10 spots to the major search engines. Most of these are self promoting and the end result you have to hire these people on to accomplish the things they say you can do on your own.

So I want to preface this by saying that my postings on how to Improve Search Engine Rankings is not necessarily a do it your self guide. In fact the art of SEO can be time consuming and irritating to say the least. Some methods require the help of companies like mine so I write these in hopes that you will understand what it really takes to gain exposure and understand what you can do on your own and where you need assistance.

One more point I want to make “Don’t use any SEO Company who can’t explain what they are doing and make claims of secret software that you can never see or use”. Yes, SEO is complex but not trivial to the point that you can’t understand what they are doing. A true SEO company will be able to educate you on what they are doing and they will also know that they are the professionals and it is best to leave some of these techniques to the experts.

  1. If you are using a shared host (and I know you are), then ask your host for a dedicated IP address for your site. This means that no one on the net shares this IP with you’re site, it is yours and yours alone. Many shared servers have tons of related sites on them, having your own IP separates you from those sites
  2. Make sure your site validates as a search engine friendly site. W3C is the best site to do this with. This will tell you if your site is valid. This means if the search engines can read your site or not. If there are errors, these can possibly stop the bots from properly indexing your site.
  3. Make sure to have a contact page with an address and phone number and a form of some sort for people to contact you. Don’t list your email on the site as it gets farmed out by hackers and used to send you tons of junk mail. Make sure the form you use on the site uses captcha (example: http://www.the-content-writers.com/contact-us.html). Have a Privacy Policy Page and Terms of Services. Make sure these 2 pages have at least 300 words. You can find these on any site and I highly suggest not to copy in any way. Find examples and use your own words, include keywords related to your site and make it personal to the reader.
  4. For every page on your site have 300 words or more. Do not write a 2 paragraph page that has little to no real information. Provide details and give examples.
  5. Create a FAQ or Tutorial page on your site. Make each subject link to its own page and focus on 1 or 2 keywords. Try to add 10 of these to your site as a good start. A great way to think of this is consider your industry and what most people don’t understand about it or questions commonly asked and put those there. This will add great content and help your potential clients feel secure about your service
  6. Add a blog to your site. Have your blog designed to match your site so as it draws traffic and readers they also know this is your main site of business like this site: Revive Skin Care. This will add value to your site, plus improve search engine rankings. Make categories and write tons of information about your industry on a regular basis.
  7. Create Link Baits using your blog. There are very few services that offer this on a professional level and this can be very complex. I do suggest leaving this service to the professionals, as it requires time and knowledge on things that most will find difficult and frustrating. The idea is having creative and detailed content talking about your industry and creating enough buzz through various distributions to get others to refer and link back to your incredible page of content. Listen, this can be a huge asset to your business as many writers love to give props to quality content.
  8. Post to Directory sites that have rankings on the inner pages and especially on the page where your site will be listed. Use unique Anchor text for each posting. This again is one of those services best left to professionals because the result of this done correctly can really help improve search engine ranking.
  9. Text Link Brokering is a creative and effective way to build more anchor text back links. Find related and quality ranked sites that will list your site in text format and this usually requires a 1 time, monthly or yearly fee.
  10. If you can and have a product or service for sell offer affiliate incentives and post these opportunities on affiliate forums, etc and generate interest in getting others to promote your service for you. Make sure you have a solid affiliate and tracking program in the back end to give security to your affiliates and have people test and write reviews on your reliability for true tacking and payouts.

Improve Search Engine Rankings using our top 10 list. There are more things to do, but to list everything can be overwhelming and leave you feeling like it can never be done. But rest assured that if you do some or all of the 10 things listed above you will see an increase of traffic.

It’s Not Enough To Increase Search Engine Visibility

March 9th, 2007

Now that is a frustrating statement to read about. Search Engine Visibility is our goal, it is what we live for and it is how we make our money online. Though true, it is not enough anymore as people want more details and want clear instruction from sites they took the time to search for so they know they reached the best site for their needs. I tell you, I have seen sites offering niche market services but loose out in the end because their site was not clear and lacking the right information to allow the customer to move on to the next step (actually signing up for services). What a shame, they have Search Engine Visibility but miss the really big picture. If I find a site that is not complete my first thought is, will they provide me with the same kind of service.

You don’t have to be a genius to get to the top of the search engines but you do have to be professional on your presentation. Here is a quick list of what sites should at least (bare minimum):

  1. Sites should have at least 2 ways to contact them in the form of a phone number and email.
    1. Now, having a sign up form or contact form is even that much bette
  2. Sites should state on the first page within the first 3 paragraphs what type of services they offer and how I can access additional information and sign up with them
  3. Sites should have a privacy policy page

Now this is not too much to ask for from a site that has Search Engine Visibility now is it? Usually I will make contact first with a company just to see if I get a response before I purchase a software or service. I look to see what kind of response I get and if I can figure out what I am getting from them within 5 minutes, otherwise I am gone.

SEO Content for SE Positions

February 18th, 2007

SEO Content for SE Positions

SEO Content is Content Optimized by the Search Engines. What does this mean? Here are a few things:

1. The search engines read your site as closely and as humanly as possible.
2. If you’re SEO Content is related to your site then you are satisfying their requirements
3. It is important to know how to strategically place this content into your site and in such a way that it causes the search engines to read your site on a regular basis.

Fresh Content on a regular basis and keyword related content is your key to accomplishing these techniques.

Having said this, what is implied here is, that you carefully researched your industry and discovered which keywords best fit your site. Don’t assume that because you would find a site under a certain term that everyone else would.

Sites like Yahoo and Google provide tools to help you discover SEO Content related keywords. Go to Google or Yahoo Search and search with each of these terms:

1. Overture Search Tool
2. Google Search Tool

There is other tools out, but keep in mind that these 2 search engines generate the most results. Now, open one of these tools and enter in a keyword. In our example we are using “SEO content” Based on my results I am seeing that I want to use these 5:

1. search engine SEO
2. search engine content
3. Content SEO
4. web site content
5. SEO optimization

Why only 5 keywords instead of 100’s? Well if you want to be strategic about this then you realize that time is not on your side and you can better focus on 5 then 100’s. Filling your site with just keywords is not useful as you need to fill your pages with information surrounding the keywords.

Now that you have your keywords and a basic understanding what is next?

Think carefully before you put this next step into action. You have 5 keywords but we will start with one of them. I will start with “Content SEO” and will write at least 400 words or more about this keyword and give informative information regarding this phrase.

Even though the search engines are reading this nearly like a human, they do not comprehend the meaning of your words. Why take the time to write content that is of great quality if the search engines don’t really understand? Because, these pages will be indexed by the search engines and read by real people. Do you want to turn business away because you are just trying to get great positions on the web? No, you want to retain the traffic you get from these results.

If I spend time actually defining the keyword “Content SEO” or write educational content related to it I want to make sure in the end, that the reader and search engines were satisfied. In fact you may want to write 2 separate pages of content relating to the keyword in these ways:

1. Educational and informative content to retain business from the readers
2. Article to place on article sites and your blog

I think I have you attention now, as I haven’t really gotten into blogging and article distribution. This takes us into the next step.

What do I do with this keyword related content? First, you want a blog installed on your site and I like word press personally but ultimately it is up to you. Once you have your blog you would insert your article in it. Make sure to have a catchy title like “Why you need Content SEO Help in Today’s Search Engines” then post your blog.

Next, find a list of great article sites to post this same article on. Note, that when I talk about writing these things that you are not promoting services but educating people. This is very important because your article will get rejected if it is self promoting. Become a Guru of quality SEO Content to gain mass exposure on the web.

There are many article sites, actually tons. Find either article sites that have great rank and SE friendly set up or use an article distribution service. Then join News Groups that allow you to both read and post articles.

The advantage here is most article sites and all blogs have rss feeds. These are great for well written SEO Content articles and content as they are picked up by blog servers and rss directories or sometimes by others using rss feeds to pull in content. These feeds can be submitted to a ton of rss directories and if you use your blog correctly every post will notify Blog servers.

On top of this you can bookmark your blogs to social network sties. Do a search for Sociable Bookmark Plug-in for wordpress to help speed up this process. If you really get creative you can even send your feeds to pod casts for even deeper distribution.

The end result is you have positioned great content on your site, posted a well written SEO Content based article on your blog and Article sites and you are now starting to scratch the surface of understanding what is involved in SEO Content for the Search Engines.
